The team of Aci Cartagena , Danielle Padilla, Mikko Asis of Team AAA won the recently held FourSquare Hack Day Philippines hackathon with their #MoreFunInThePhilippines meme app appropriately named PicXplorer. Using the FourSquare API, the app pulls pictures from  FourSquare venues & then puts the corresponding category and then displays it in Harabara font. You can view the code if you’re in Assembla here: .

Second place went to Team Zinder comprised of Dexter Brylle Matos, Marco Padillo & Hyubs Ursua with their incremental social good app called “8 small things” which according to them “Make Philippines more fun by doing small things connected to the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals for 2015!”.

Third Place went to the Self Servants composed of Melvin Fetalvero, Jason Sia, Mai Cervantes with their “It’s More Fun In the Philippines Experience” app which allows the user to have quest-like location-based experiences. The experiential app described by the team An Alternative Reality Game brings popular experiences in to the Philippine Context” even had the app calling you as part of the game experience as they were demo-ing a SkyFall scenario.

FourSquare HackDay Philippines was the first ever Hack Day held outside of the United States. SMARTDevNet (Smart Developer Network) together with WebGeek.PH brought in FourSquare engineer Sajid Mehmood to be on hand so that the hackathoners could get first-hand information on how the FourSquare API worked. The developer event was opened by Chito Bustamante, head of SMART Communications Inc. ‘s PRiSM (Product Research Innovation & Strategic Management) team followed by a short demonstration of the SMART LBS API by one of SMART’s software engineers Cyril Veindivil. The judges for this event were internet pioneers Migz Paraz & Dave Quitoriano, William Yu of Novare, Sajid Mehmood from FourSquare and Bryan Bibat, VP for Technology of DevCon Philippines.
